Mechanical Capping and Sand Cover Placement

Nelosca can provide mechanical placement using excavators or cranes outfitted with clamshell buckets. This method is ideal for small areas with underlying hard sediment. As an economical alternative to mass-placement using our Broadcast Capping System, this method still uses state-of-the-art technologies to accurately place caps in precise layers.

Our talented operators install a variety of materials by lowering each bucket slowly through the water column and gently placing its contents over the underlying sediments. Great care is taken to minimize intermixing and avoid mud waves. Several quality control checks are implemented to ensure the cap is in the correct location to the desirable thickness before the plant advances to the next location.

Mechanical placement can also be carried out on land or in soft soil conditions such as marshlands. Nelosca uses both low ground pressure equipment and amphibious equipment to safety spread the sand or engineered cap over the designate areas.
